I usually start off with having a lengthy consultation with my client about WHAT IT IS they are looking to achieve in a new logo. Then I present to them a couple ideas right off of the bat. Usually those ideas are great and we end up going with the first or third idea. Which is NOT the way I like to work but because time and money is an issue with most of my clients these days, this approach has sort of become the norm. But not in this case. I have happily had the luxury of time to ponder over this new design.
Books on the Blvd is a cozy shop on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, California. I often shop here for hard to find books. In the process I became friends with the owner and one thing lead to another and now I am rebranding her shop. The challenge was to create something that is modern but still captures the personality of the store. Along each isle sits several rows of an eclectic mix of collections ranging from America History to American Splendor. The interesting thing about this place is Lisa, the Sole Proprietor and her passion for an art form that is quickly drying up. Each book contains so much history, philosophy and psychology of not only the topic at hand but many of the economic, racial and other plights of wo/man within, and between the words of each book. Fitting that my client is a History buff, her store is a living museum. A place that should not be forgot. This new direction of rebranding should help the astute Kindle Fire consumers of Sherman Oaks, to take a second look and pick up a new to them pre-owned, hard to find or out of print physical book. This is not a library but a collection that has be garnered over by it's owner and comes from a very specific perspective. The look above was an all too modern look for my client's taste, and has been scrapped. I am in the works of creating a more conservative yet unique type of design that will make Lisa happy. #OnMyGrind xDCamrin I have official crossed over to the dark side. Final cut X has my soul now. Overall crazy new interface but its growing on me. Thanks to Douglass Quill for hiring me to cut his new film Chowdaheads! Shot entirely on the RED EPIC. Be on the look out for some sneak peaks.
Check out this new logo I designed for the Skin Shack. They make custom made freshly cut soap to sell at local Farmers Markets.
I have to give it to Starbucks for actually making me buy something. Especially for a non-drink item that has infused it's way into my life as quickly as possible. This 'twisted metal' tumbler can be found in Stainless Steel or White ... depending on the store.... but I <3 my exposed metal version! If Iorn Man's Suit (Mark 2) had a cup holder...this would be Tony's must have item too! For 20 bucks this cup carries 16 fl oz of delight (That's a Grande for you no-buckers). So, unbeknownst to me, I kind of subconsciously helped reduce garbage by really liking a well designed and head-turning tumbler. (Really, I got stopped in a Trader Joe's parking lot and questioned for 10 mins ...[not by police]...but a happy couple who thought I designed it. They were surprised that it was from Starbucks too. This got me thinking that I should create more sustainable design for my clients and try to do my best to reduce my own personal carbon footprint. (I know smugish right?) I have heard of it but didn't know exactly where to start. In the past, I have tried to make a compost heap... but that got really messy. So, thank you Starbucks for helping me change my habit! Having my Twisted Sippy Cup, TSC for short, at my side at all times has been nothing but beneficial. Not only to my skin but also to help regulate my body temp and keep cool during these hot times in SoCal! I mean I do live in a desert, but who could tell, right??? Speaking of illusions, no one can tell what I am drinking. So, filler up Starbucks with your finest ice water as I sit inconspicuously at the bar, while recieving compliments from fellow patrons. I guess this is what a trend setter feels like :? I like it...I think... I wish I was getting paid from Starbucks for all this free promo. But...it's all for a good cause..right? From this day forward I am doing my best to put good habits into my life. Oprah says it takes about two weeks for an action to become a habit. Using a Tumbler instead of a new plastic cup every time I visit Starbucks is now infused into my brain and would take surgical precision to remove it. #SortOfATrendsetter P.S> I forgot to mention that they also sell different straws... I have a glittery one as seen below. Had the pleasure of joing Debutantess Shangela during her guest roll performance as the fairy God-Mother in Toddrick Hall's Cinderonce.
